Schools: Stangs' Hackett slows down Redmen
Norwood 12, Natick 2
The Mustangs bounced back quickly from a loss to rival Walpole with a decisive decision over the Redmen, avenging last year’s tournament loss and moving to 4-3 overall (3-3 BSC) on the season.
Things didn’t start well for Norwood as Natick struck for a two-run homer in the first inning for an early lead. But Paige Hackett settled down nicely in the circle, going the distance for the win, allowing just five hits and a walk on the day while striking out five.
Norwood turned the momentum around with an eight-run eighth that featured RBI doubles from Kim DeCosta and Natalie Dolan. DeCosta also had a sensational over-the-shoulder grab with a couple on base in the seventh.
Norwood banged out 15 hits in all, with Brittany Calarese, Jen Harrington and Auzie Fruci joining Dolan in the multiple-hit department.
“They came out hitting well and for the most part played good defense,” said Norwood coach Kathy Smelstor.

Success is not measured by all the great situations, but what you do when you are faced with the bad ones.
